ABOUT
The
Artist
Antonio Escobar is a Hollywood, FL-based artist, born in Bogotá, Colombia. A natural entertainer and big-time jokester, Antonio is also a designer and art director who, after years of working in advertising, developed a distinctive style centered around geometric shapes. These forms are arranged into symmetrical patterns to create illustrative faces or masks he calls "clowns."
His ongoing series, "I’m not your clown," explores the complexities of human emotion through the deconstruction of the clown figure, both as a visual element and as a symbol of the masks we wear—whether to please others or to conceal our insecurities. By referencing his personal narrative, the surrounding art scene, and pre-Columbian culture,
Antonio adds a contemporary twist to his mixed-media work, which spans paintings, murals, screen printing, ceramics, and furniture design.
These faces can also be read as symbols or meanings, aiming to establish a new visual language or form of human communication. With each piece, Antonio seeks to reflect the individual’s inherent power of creativity as a core aspect of their nature, all while embarking on a search for his own identity through the faces he constructs. This series rethinks the clown figure not only as an artistic execution but also as a tool for uncovering true identity.
